About me
My Interests
From the beginning of my early childhood years i have always indulged in video games, and it has ever since become my favorite past time. As shallow as 'video gaming' may be, it has brought me countless hours of joy and learning. Yes, learning something new has always been a bi-product of gaming although there is a limit to how much you can learn from playing a game. Problem solving skills and constant desire to improve myself has stemmed from gaming as many games require the user to learn certain skills such as jumping from one platform to another or to defeat a virtual character in combat. After a whole paragraph of justifying my gaming habits, i must state that reading has also become a great hobby of mine, from fantasy to philosophy, i have always enjoyed well written books. However, due to my low attention span, finishing a book may take months. I also 'would' also enjoy writing, be it blogs, or even (my dream) publish a best selling book.
Alas, i am just a normal guy, who does regular activities just like any healthy person would, which includes sports, gaming, reading etc. Unfortunately i have never learned to play a musical instrument, but whats to stop me from doing so? Nothing that i can think of aside from getting a degree first, a job, settle down (maybe), being stable financially, etc. In other words i may never learn to play an instrument. :\
Dreams
As mentioned above, one of my dreams is to write and publish a best selling book. As to whether or not it is a feasible dream to have with respect to my own writing ability is another story. Despite my obvious lack of penmanship, i do have strong opinions on a number of different issues be it political or philosophical in nature. for example, do i believe that democracy is necessarily the best way to form a government? Yes and no but i shall elaborate that further in my so called dream book.Switching back to reality, although i don't see anything wrong with having a big dream, is the actual doable dreams or simple goals in life to be listed down below.
- Financially able to afford most necessities and then some
- MAYBE start a family
- Pursue a Masters or PhD degree
- Milk a cow (lol)
- Get a dog (my family does not like pets)
- Quit SMOKING
Aspirations
My wishes are simple, i simply wish to be able to influence other people either through writing or my actions. Easier said than done, and i obviously need to work to improve myself and broaden my horizons to do so. However i do wish to be a person who is open minded and one who is willing to change his mind when presented with a reasonable sound argument. That's all i guess.Where do i come from????????
I was born in KL in the year 1988. I'm a Malaysian and anything else is rather irrelevant. We are 1 Malaysia. That is all. Not really.I come from a chinese hainan background where my father is able to speak hainanese and i am not. To be totally honest, i know little to nothing about my own chinese heritage though i am able to speak and write in mandarin. My identity and how i would describe myself has no ties to my ancestors or where i came from, i am who i am, and i will be who i want to be. That is all.
My childhood
I was the only child growing up in my family. As i did spend 5 years of my childhood in the USA i experienced a rather different childhood as compared to some of my peers in Malaysia. One of the most significant changes in my life was moving back to Malaysia, where i experienced a lot of culture shock, especially the way school teachers taught their students here in Malaysia. I am however, unable to compare the 2 environments objectively, i will say though that the 2 learning environments are very different. In the end i was able to fully adapt to the Malaysian life, and i am now proud and comfortable to call myself a Malaysian with the addition of now speaking a 100% Malaysian english accent. RIGHT ANOT?Family conditions
Both my parents are PhD holders, and both my parents are teaching in UPM and Nottingham(Malaysia) respectively. Growing up, my parents has raised me to think for myself and has constantly preached the importance of education to me.I was not lonely growing up, i was in fact quite happy to indulge in my own fantasies when i was in my play time. I used to imagine for example, that my mechanical pencils were soldiers in the field of battle, and the leads were the ammunition, as the pencils were themselves living beings as well as guns. Silly though as that may sound, i spent countless hours concocting different scenarios in which i play with objects all around me. Kids nowadays have plenty of visual and audio entertainment to keep them occupied without using their own imagination. Makes me wonder what the next generation of kids will be exposed to with respect to the newer forms of entertainment and media.
Significant experiences
As mentioned above, culture shock was one of the most significant experiences in my life, as i learned that different cultures exists and the way societies function differently as you move along the global map. That experience alone has taught me how to adapt when the environment changes though it was rather easy since i made a lot of great friends during my transition period. As i did not mention above i do have something called a 'panic disorder'. Panic disorder is "A psychiatric disorder in which debilitating anxiety and fear arise frequently and without reasonable cause." I had my first series of panic attacks when i was in Monash university causing me to be SUPER anti social and ignoring my academic responsibilities resulting in failure to graduate from my school. Since then i have been under medication and my panic attacks are now under control and i am able to function properly in most social circumstances. I can now pursue (thanks to my 2 great parents) a course that i have great interest in, communication. Information technology is really boring.
